Donald Edward Burris, 73 of Columbus, Ohio passed away on November 1st, 2023.
Don was born on August 1st, 1950 to Alva and Nettie Allen Burris.
Don served in the US Army during the Vietnam War as an interpreter for ASA as an SP5.
Don utilized the GI bill and earned a bachelor's, master's, and eventually a Ph.D. in Microbiology before going on to teach at both a college and later on a medical school. He specialized in immunology and virology.
In his younger years, Don had a passion for hiking, camping, caving, and rock climbing and it was through those activities that he met his wife Carol. Don also had a passion for black and white photography, which as he worked on his microbiology degrees included taking photos of microorganisms. In later years Don enjoyed genealogy and spending time volunteering for the American Legion and VFW.
He was married to his wife Carol Elbert for 47 years as they traveled the country setting up homes in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Florida before returning to Ohio for his retirement.
Don will be deeply missed by his wife Carol Burris, his sister Susan Yates, his children Lynda "Chase" Young and Donald Burris II, his grandchildren Kayleigh, Lorelei, Bella, Clara, and Myfanwy Young and his son-in-law Robert Young. Don was preceded in death by his parents Alva and Nettie Burris.
