Donnell Powell

Donnell C. Powell, 86, of Columbus, Ohio went to heaven Friday July 27, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
Donnell was born December 20, 1925 in Vining, Oklahoma. The son of Vera Marie (Butterfield) Powell and Dana Joseph Powell. Donnell was married to Dorothy (Goddard) Powell June 20, 1955 in Corpus Christi, Texas. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage together before she was called to heaven on August 16, 2006.
Donnell served our country 24 years in the US Navy as a 1st class Petty Officer. His career in the US Navy includes distinguished combat service for three wars the Korean War, World War II, and the Vietnam War. Donnell also worked many years for the US Postal Service, Texas Oil Fields and US Naval Shipyard from which he retired in 1987. He belonged to the USS Ross Naval Ship Organization.
Donnell is predeceased by his loving devoted wife Dorothy (Goddard) Powell. He is also predeceased by daughter Audrey Williams of Liverpool, NY, and his brothers Chet (Gene) Powell, Vernon (Janoma) Powell, Marvin (Ainine) Powell, and Joseph Powell.
Donnell is survived by his sisters Willa Mae (Dick) Prevett and Anna Marie (Jerry) Newmann of Washington. His children Robert Powell of Bristol, CT, Donna Myers of Columbus, Oh, Dorothy (Robert) Purdy of Newport, RI, William (Mary Lois) Gill of Pewee Valley, KY, Shirley (James) Boucher of Carson City, NV, Nancy Almond of Parker, SD.
Donnell is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 34 great great grandchildren whom he cherished more each day.
"We lived in hope. We prayed in vain. That God would make you well again. But God decided we must part. We watched you die with broken hearts."
At the request of Donnell no calling hours or funeral services will be held.
