Doretha McConnell Brown-Nowlin age 90 was born on February 24, 1933 to the late Rufus Hays and Estelle Erin McConnel in South Carolina. Doretha passed away peacefully on August 26, 2023 at Smith Mill Campus Nursing Facility with her husband by her side.
Later in life Doretha moved to Columbus, Ohio where she met and married William E. Nowlin. There were no children born to this union. Before this marriage Doretha was blessed with seven children.
During her stay here in Columbus, Doretha worked as a health care provider and she received several certificates during that time. She was recognized by Franklin County Senior Options in October of 1998 and The Heart of Caring Club presented her with Honors in 2002. In December of 2002 and 2003 she was recognized for her dedicated service from Help at Home through Life Care Alliance. These are just to name a few. Everything that Doretha set her mind to do she did it with excellence. She definitely had a servant's heart. Doretha could be found working in her garden and growing her beautiful flowers.
Doretha accepted Christ at an early age and she fellowshipped at the First Church of God in Christ along side her husband until her health failed her.
Doretha Brown-Nowlin is proceeded in death by her parents, Rufus Hays and Estelle Erin McConnell, her sons Melvin Brown and Alvin Brown, her daughter Arnetta Brown, her sister Lee Ethel McConnell, her brother's Napolian McConnell, Alvester McConnell and Hayes Arthur McConnell.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 21 years William E. Nowlin children, Rosetta Brown, Calvin Brown, Humphrey Brown, Jaquetta Smith, Brother Judge C. Allen McConnell, Sister Lorraine McConnel and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends.
The family of Doretha Brown-Nowlin would like to express our gratitude for the many acts of kindness shown during our time of bereavement perhaps you sent flowers, called or texted, provided food or lifted us up in prayer it has not gone unnoticed. Please continue to keep us in your prayers.
A visitation will be held on Monday September, 11th from 10 to 11am with a service to follow at First Church of God. 3480 Refugee Rd Columbus OH, 43233.
