Doris Davis Hamilton

November 19, 1935 — June 3, 2021

Doris Hamilton, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away at the age of 85, after a short illness.
Doris was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to the late Eugene and Maggie (Smithen) Davis.
Growing up, she was a talented musician playing piano and violin in orchestra as well as accompanying in church and her family gospel group. She was 6th out of 8 children. One day, the family met and invited a young Jim Hamilton home to dinner after church. Jim became their boarder, friend, and after several years, began dating Doris (they met when she was 12, he joked he had to wait for her to grow up). They married and stayed that way for 67 years. Jim would often introduce her as his first wife.
They raised a family while moving multiple places around the country, collecting new friends along the way and even served a stint as missionaries in Mexico. They eventually landed in Ohio for good where Doris worked for The Ohio State University for 20 years, both in the College of Dentistry and the School of Medicine. When retired, Doris and Jim spent many happy winters camping and enjoying Arizona with friends and family.
She loved her family first and foremost and left her legacy in doing so. She was known as our greatest supporter and cheerleader, often going hoarse cheering us on and clapping so hard she hurt her hands. She made a point to attend all her children's and grandchildren's track, cross country, and gymnastics meets, baseball, softball, basketball and football games, endless concerts, recitals, plays, awards banquets, etc. She loved playing cards (Shanghai, Hand and Foot), zoo trips, making root beer floats for the grandkids, late-night cappuccinos, crafts with kids, cooking (she was especially known for her pancakes, waffles, enchiladas, sopapillas, lasagna, and red velvet cake), gardening, bird watching, and giving music lessons to her grandkids. She poured her love into others and we thrived because of it.
Doris is preceded in death by husband Jim, sisters Ernell, Eloise, and Jeannie, brothers Thomas and Jimmy, son David and grandson Kyle.
She is survived by brothers Norman and Billy; her children Keith, Scott (Priscila), Becky (Todd); and her 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Joint services for Jim and Doris will be August 7, 2021 visitation at 10am until the time of service at 11am at Meadow Park Church of God, where they attended and served for 47 years.
