Doris Marie Lyles, a cherished soul deeply rooted in her faith and family, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio. Born on May 27, 1934, in Evington, Virginia, Doris lived a life marked by love, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to her spiritual beliefs as a devoted Jehovah's Witness.
Doris was a woman of many talents, known for her exceptional skills in sewing and cooking, which she generously shared with loved ones. Her hands worked wonders, crafting beautiful garments and preparing delightful meals that brought families together around the table. Each stitch and each recipe were expressions of her affection, cementing her role as the nurturing heart of her family.
She is survived by her son, Harold Goolsby, who carries forward her legacy of love and strength. Doris took great joy in her grandchildren: Sherman Floyd Jr., Jimmy Floyd, Siney Harris, Victoria Goolsby, Antonio Goolsby, and Marcus Goolsby. They brought her immense pride and happiness, filling her later years with laughter and cherished memories. Doris also embraced the joy of great-grandparenthood, reveling in the company of Jaylin Harris, Zander Harris, and Legend Goolsby—her light shining brighter with each new generation.
Though she rejoices in her heavenly home now, Doris leaves behind a tapestry of memories woven with love, faith, and dedication. She was preceded in death by her beloved children, Sherman Floyd, Michael Goolsby and daughter, Kathy Goolsby. Her brother, Kenneth Thompson; and her sister, Rebecca Jones. The strength of her spirit is felt in the hearts of her surviving family, who will carry her memory forward with honor and love.
Doris Marie Lyles will be remembered not only for her nurturing nature but also for the immense love she had for her spiritual family. Her life was a testament to the values she cherished, and her influence will continue to resonate in the lives of all those who had the privilege to know her.
