Dorothy L. Vance, 70, of Columbus, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 14, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. Born to Excel and Ruthie (Ford) Foxx on June 28, 1937, in Memphis, TN, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Norval Akers and Rupert Vance; son, Victor Akers; sister, Jeri Venable. Survivors include her daughter, Venus Akers-Foxx; grandchildren, Quana and Adam Foxx and Michael Summers; sister, Annie McKenzie; brother, Wesley Billups; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, cousins, adopted daughters, adopted grandchildren, and special friends. Dorothy retired from Mercy Hospital where she was the administrative assistant for the care unit and was the administrator of the Calvary Tremont Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 12:00 noon, Calvary Tremont Baptist Church, 1255 Leonard Avenue, Columbus, OH with the family receiving guests at 11:00 AM.
