Dorothy J. Mettler, 70, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 13, 2009. Born to Oscar D. and Dorothy L. (Stephenson) Myers in Columbus, OH on March 15, 1938, Dorothy was employed with the State of Ohio, Department of Taxation as a Tax Investigations Agent for the past 20 yrs. Dorothy was a compassionate woman who opened her heart to those in need and made countless sacrifices for her family. She donated much of her time to children of all ages by tutoring through the local literacy programs as well as volunteering her time and contributing to "A Special Wish Foundation" an organization for terminally ill children. Dorothy was also an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolutionary (DAR) where she sought out opportunities to lend support for our troops.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and brother, William J. Myers. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband and companion of 52 years, Melvin G. Mettler Sr.; daughter, Melanea (Nicolas) Mettler Alvarez; son, Melvin G. Mettler Jr.; granddaughter, Amanda (Ryan Snider) Alvarez; sister, LaDonna (David) Click; brother, David (Deborah) Myers; aunt, June L. Ridge (Stephenson), nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
The family will receive guests Tuesday, March 17, 2009, 4-7 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 East Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 11:00 AM with visitation 1 hr prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to "A Special Wish Foundation" http://www.spwish.org/
