Dorothy Ann (Tomko) Nethers, 90, of Columbus, passed away August 13, 2021 of stage 4 metastasized breast cancer. Dorothy was born November 15, 1930 in Cairnbrook, PA to George and Susan (Cernak) Tomko. She graduated from Valley Forge University (formerly EBI) in 1953 with a BA in Christian Education. Dorothy was a pastor/minister's wife of 60 years at various Assemblies of God churches across Ohio and New Jersey. Within the church Dorothy played the piano, organ, accordion and violin; she sang many solos, participated in a variety of musical groups and choirs and enjoyed arranging songs for the family to sing as specials in church; she also conducted choirs, children's church, missionettes, women's ministries, vacation bible schools, quiz teams, and so many other programs. Outside the church Dorothy was just as active, sewing clothes not only for her family but for many plays and events; she was an excellent reupholsterer; gave piano lessons to many students; was a substitute teacher at all grade levels; opened and ran her own preschool "Zoned For Kids" in Grove City; worked many years for Sanese at TRC/Honda in Marysville, as well as working as a Hostess/Waitress for Bob Evans Restaurants. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 69 years, Norman Nethers, her daughters Sharon (Bruce) Ellsworth and Gail (Edward) Waldeck, and her grandchildren Caden and Karissa Nethers. Dorothy lived a full life and was a strong, independent, courageous, gracious and selfless woman of God who will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Benjamin Nethers. Visitation will be Thursday, August 26, 2021, from 5pm to 8pm at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., Columbus, OH 43231. Funeral services will be Friday, August 27, 2021 at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to National Church Residences Hospice, 2245 N. Bank Dr., Columbus, OH 43220.
