Dorothy York

York (Nee Grummell)

Dorothy M. York, 87, of Columbus, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2007 at The Forum at Knightsbridge. She was born November 1, 1919, in Portsmouth, OH., daughter of the late John H. and Lutie H. Grummell. In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, James E. York II, whom she married September 13, 1952 at Norfolk Naval Base and sister, Mary Appel. She was a 1937 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Portsmouth, the same year the town and her home were ravished with flooding. Dorothy worked for the Ohio Dept. of Welfare in both Scioto and Franklin Counties. She retired from Nationwide Insurance with over 30 years of service. Dorothy is survived by her sons, James E. (Sharon) York III and Howard P. York; sisters, Catherine Graf and Frances Prince; grandchildren, Derek J. York, Holly N. York and Hannah D. York. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 3, 2007 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home N.E. Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, October 4, 2007 at 11:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 East N. Broadway, Columbus, with Monsignor Anthony Missimi, officiating.
