Douglas E. Mooney

Douglas E. Mooney, 47, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Douglas was born December 22, 1977, in Fremont, Ohio to Donald K. and Gloria J. (Nay) Mooney.

He enjoyed gathering with friends and playing Warhammer Fantasy. Over the years he had acquired many armies and played in many tournaments that were local and in other states. He didn’t always place in the tournaments, but always had a wonderful time, especially at Buckeye Battles. 

Douglas was an accomplished Chef and graduated from the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute in 2002, but his true love was computers. In 2008, he went back to school and got his certifications for computers and later started his own business, LevelUp Tech.

For the last several years, Douglas enjoyed coaching for the Reynoldsburg Jr. Raiders youth football program. He became President of the program in 2023 and stepped down in June of 2024 when he was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Brain Tumor and had a massive stroke. He loved teaching the kids how to play football, including his own two sons. In 2023, the last season he coached, he took his team all the way to the Mini OCC Championship and won. He truly enjoyed helping the kids learn and watching them grow over the years. He attended several RJR games this football season to encourage the kids that they can do anything and to not give up. Even though he was paralyzed on his left side, he tried his hardest to show the kids that anything was possible and tried to stand for them during Reynoldsburg Jr. Raider night during a Reynoldsburg High School Football Game.

Douglas will be deeply missed by his wife of almost 25 years, Andrea L. (Westfall) Mooney; his children, Kiana (James Campbell) Mooney, 24, Xander Mooney, 18, and Roman Mooney, 10; his grandson, Lewellyn Campbell, 3, and his mother Gloria J. (Nay) Mooney.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Donald K. Mooney and his son, Dylan Charles Mooney, along with his maternal and paternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be Friday, January 17, 2025 from 5 to 7 pm at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.
