Dr. James Samba passed away at Mt Carmel/St Ann's Hospital, Westerville, OH on Friday, September 10, 2021.
He was born on November 27, 1945 in Magburaka, Tonkolili District to Mr. Cecil Lansana Samba and Mrs. Marie Rose Nellie Samba (nee Spaine).
Dr. Samba is an alumnus of Christ the King College in Bo, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, John's Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and the University of San Diego, CA.
Dr. Samba was a renowned Obstetrician and Gynecologist (OBGYN). He provided OBGYN services for more than 4 decades in the Republic of Sierra Leone.
He served as Commanding Officer Joint Medical Unit of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces; held several senior civic positions, provided voluntary healthcare services, and promoted the welfare of several organizations.
He was a member of the Knights of St John and rose to the position of Grand 1st Vice President, Sierra Leone Grand Commandery.
James was preceded in death by his father, Cecil, mother, Marie, sister Cecilia. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret (nee Goba), daughters: Masara, Cecilia, Magdalene, Estrella, Marina and Sylvia; son, James; sister, Marie Rose; brothers: Cecil, Arnold, Augustine, Samuel and Borbor-Cecil; many cousins, nephews, nieces, uncles, and aunts.
Families include but not limited to the Ngagbois, Faleys, Jajuas, Gbows, Benjamins, Ngombus, Gilpins, Spaines, Tuckers, Anthonys, Kowas, Blakes, Campos, Allies, Gobas, Moserays, Lahais, Nevis, Swarrays, Sherriffs, Kallons, Johnsons, Fullers, Kamaras; several colleagues and dear friends, including Stevo.
Visitations will be held from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM on October 15th, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home and 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 16th, 2021, at St. Mathias Catholic Church, 1582 Ferris Rd, Columbus, OH 43224 Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM.
