Duryodhan Mangaraj
August 10, 1929 — February 13, 2022
Dr. Duryodhan Mangaraj, 92 years of age, passed away at home peacefully with his family beside him.
He was born in Karilopatna, Orissa (in the same month as Gandhi ji) to Sukiya and Nishamani Mangaraj who have both preceded him in death. His brother Nityananda Mangaraj and his sister preceded him in death. He retired from Batelle Corporation and then consulted for local engineering firms in Columbus.
Dr. Mangaraj had a deep love for God and for his family - "Every child comes with a message that God is not yet discouraged of man". He belonged to the Kriya Group in Columbus and practiced Kriya Yoga, as a disciple of Pragyananda Baba.
He is remembered by his family for his deep political discussions, quirky jokes, his ability to get down to the level of his grandchildren in their games and for his singing of old oriya dittys. He was a quiet man who lived by many of Tagore's quotes -- "We live in the world when we love it". He loved life and he did not want to ever be far away from his children.
Bapa will be deeply missed by his wife Sakuntala (Kunti) of 66 years and his children Phenu (Hemanta) Nayak, Sandeep (Maria who preceded bapa in death) Mangaraj, Lori (Brian) Murphy, and Raj (Claire) Mangaraj. He will be dearly missed also by his grandchildren: Madhuri (Rahul) Mann, Debadutta Nayak, Asha and Emily Mangaraj, Jamie and Dylan Murphy, Miranda and Rex Mangaraj. His great grandchild, Miraan Mann, will have to learn about his great grandfather from all our memories and the pictures we have of the two of them playing.
Memorial service will be Wednesday, February 16 at Newcomer Funeral Home in Powell, OH. This will be followed by the Eleventh day Puja at the Bharatiya Hindu Temple, Powell, Ohio on Wednesday, February 23 followed by bhoji at the temple.
In lieu of flowers you can donate to the Bharatiya Hindu Temple, Powell, Ohio.
