Earl D Harris

October 7, 1947 — August 16, 2021

Earl D. Harris passed away on August 16, 2021, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on October 7, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Lena F. Day and Braxton E. Harris.

He is survived by his children, Angela (John) Kaltenbach, Amy (Casey) Hixenbaugh, Dawn Dixon, Christie (Rick) Hector, Earl D. Harris II and Amanda (Mike) McCabe; grandchildren, Anthony, Corey, Korissa, Alexandria, Josie, Rocky, Johnny, Hailie, Kate, Gavan, Zoe, Morgan, and Samantha; great-grandchildren, Coraline, Isabella, Joni, Isaac and Markey; sister, Sandy Howard; brother, Bob Harris; and former wife, Barbara Burger-Schilling.

Doug served honorably in the United States Marine Corp, first on the USS Ranger, then two tours in Vietnam. He achieved the rank of Lance Corporal. He was extremely proud of being a Marine and passed on the values instilled in him to his children.
Doug was an avid outdoorsman and scout leader. Some of his favorite hikes were on the Appalachian Trail and at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

He was the scoutmaster of Troop 412 in Darbydale, Ohio, and received the Silver Beaver Award for his service and leadership in scouting. He became a Rappel Master in 1992 and proudly led groups of scouts in the United States and Canada.
Doug will be missed immensely by his family and friends, but especially by his cats Momma, Garfield, Trouble and Blackie. He is finally reunited with his dog, Precious.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 22, 2021, from 2-4 p.m., at Newcomer SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, 43123.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society, 3015 Scioto Darby Executive Ct, Hilliard, OH 43026.
