Earl "Tony" Henderson, 67, passed away peacfully in the early morning of Saturday March 6th at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father Elmore Henderson and ex-wife Lydia Washington. Tony was born in Jacksonville, FL. He moved to France at the age of 5 years, because his father was in the Air Force. After living abroad and in several states, his family found a home in Columbus, OH in 1967. He was a graduate of South High School where he played football, baseball and was on the wrestling team. He played tenor and alto saxaphone and dabbled with various other horns including the trumpet, soprano and baritone sax. As a teenager/young adult, Tony belonged to a band called the Young Underground and opened for the Ohio Players when they came to perform in Columbus in the early 70s. Tony and his lovely wife Virginia (Jeni) met 26 years ago and were married for 17. For some years Tony served as vice president of COTA's union- Local 208, and on Sept 15, 2010, he retired from COTA after 30 years of safe driving service. He loved music, especially funk and soul, and enjoyed sports. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, gardening, and landscaping. He even earned a reward for the best landcaped yard in the neighborhood. Tony was a huge Jacksonville Jaguar and Ohio State Buckeye fan (GO BUCKS!). Some of his most memorable words of wisdom were, "You have to know where you've been to know where you're going", "History repeats itself", "Can't keep old people waitin", and "Don't piss down my back and tell me it's rainin"(LOL). His enormous sense of humor, generosity, and vast wisdom will be greatly missed.
