Edith E. Smith

Edith Eileen Smith, 81 years old, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Monday, Dec. 12, 2022. She was born in Massillon, Ohio on June 14, 1941.

Edie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 59 years, Robert; her children, Scott (Amy) Stratton-Smith, Wendy (Jim) Slates; and grandchildren, Jeremy Stratton-Smith (and fiancé Amari Simpson), Lydia Stratton-Smith and Abby, Charlie and Allison Slates.

Above all else, Edie treasured time with her family. She loved to cook for her family and always wanted to make sure that everyone had enough to eat! She was a homemaker for most of the years that her children were in school and later went back to college to earn a master's degree in counseling. She worked in a variety of settings and found much satisfaction in helping in the mental health field. She was able to create many special memories with her grandchildren over the years.
Even as the Alzheimer's progressed, Edie's kind spirit was evident. She made many friends at Peace Lutheran Church and Kensington Place. We are so grateful for the care of the staff at Kensington and Capital City Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 11am (with visitation at 10am) on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022 at Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Clark State Rd., Gahanna. Pastor Doug Warburton will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church.
