Eleanor Alban Reckley May 6, 1927 - July 17, 2015.
Eleanor Alban Reckley, lover of birds and of all life's simple pleasures, suffered a massive stroke on July 6th and left us in body only on July 17th. A 30-year plus retiree of OSURF, Eleanor continued to serve the Columbus community for an additional 15-year period with SCORE after that retirement. She is survived by her children, Dr. Alice Reckley-Vallejos and her husband, Edwin Vallejos, Cathy Reckley Slack, and Ellen Gail Reckley; her grandchildren, Kevin Slack, Alix Dickson, and Angela Slack, will carry in their hearts the extraordinary love and wisdom she so openly gave them, and Eleanor's list of survivors would not be complete without the inclusion of Alix' father, Larry Dickson. A devout member of the Presbyterian Church her entire life, Eleanor's list of survivors also includes all of the friendships she has acquired throughout her lifetime with her fellow churchgoers, which includes the membership of her last 55 years with Indianola Presbyterian Church. She will be missed by many and forgotten by no one. Anyone ever having had the pleasure of working, sharing bread or a smile with her felt honored by her friendship, yet as the graceful woman she was, she would respond, "I'm the lucky one." We were all the lucky ones, "Mother, Mommy, G'ma, Sadie, Ellie, former Deacon and winner of The Prince of Peace contest of 1944," and we thank you for all the love and light you leave with us. Visitation on Tuesday, July 21st from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and service from 12:30-1:30 9.m., both at Newcomer Southwest Chapel, 3393 Broadway in Grove City, 43123 (614-539-6166). In lieu of flowers, donations to Indianola Presbyterian Church (www.indianolapres.org) or the Natural Resource Defense Council (www.nrdc.org) in her honor are appreciated.
