Evangelist Elizabeth (Bettie) Louise (Cochran) Belcher, age 79, of Columbus, departed on the gospel train Thursday, August 2, 2007 from her residence. As an ordained Minister/Evangelist and member of the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith, she served as the church organist/ pianist, Assistant Music Coordinator of the Sunday School, Director of Music, Director of the All Girls Choir, Children's Choir, Music Director of the Vacation Bible School, past organist for the men's choir, and former Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of The Ohio District Council and Minister's Alliance Council both local and state. She attended Aenon Bible College and Rehoboth Bible Institute (Elder Kenneth Bligen). Bettie also served as past President, Treasurer, and Secretary of the Columbus Public Schools PTA; volunteer and community worker with the Devon Park Triangle Association; recipient of many awards for outstanding contributions of services in the community and schools; former employee of the Franklin County Department of Human Services child care program; former President and Council Representative for the Hospice program. She was married to William Lacey Belcher on March 25, 1951, and to this union she was blessed with 4 children. Preceded in death by parents, William M and Newman N (Coleman) Cochran; husband, William Lacey Belcher; son, Robert L. Belcher; brothers, Joseph , Clarence, William II, Parnell and Sylvester Cochran; sisters, Willa B. Perry, Lula Mae Burton; sisters-in-law, Jeanette, Daisy, Ollie, and Maggie Cochran. Survived by daughters, Sheilla L. White (Columbus), Kathy L. Belcher (Mobile, AL); son, William L (Romonda) Belcher II (Columbus); brother, Lawrence Cochran (Columbus); sister, Pastor Neoma Dennis (Columbus); grandchildren Talishia (Dekare) Jones, Tia D. Hayes, Tiffany A. Hayes, Tamarah L. Hayes, William L Belcher III, Jacquez Terry-Belcher, Saundrea Eaton-Belcher (all of Columbus); great-grandchildren, Doveanna L. Belcher, Devon Jones, Xavier Cannaday, London Belcher (all of Columbus); sister-in-law Clara Smith (Ronoake,Va), Willa Mae Cochran, Dorothy Cochran (all of Columbus); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, special prayer warriors and friends. Homegoing celebration will be Thursday , August 9, 2007 at the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith, 1200 Brentnell Ave, Columbus, OH 43219, with District Elder Dr. Eugene Lundy, officiating. Visitation will be from 11am – 12pm with services beginning promptly at 12 noon. Burial will take place at Eastlawn Cemetery immediately following the service.
