Elmer D. McCoy, better known as Mac, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the Kobacker House after a short bout with lung cancer.
He was born on January 17, 1953 in Fayetteville, NC to the late Elmer and Helen McCoy. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1971 and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army from 1971 to 1979. After 30 years, he retired from the United States Postal Service in 2008. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was ecstatic when they finally won the World Series, something he thought would never happen during his lifetime. He also enjoyed golfing, playing guitar and watching old westerns. Known as a gentle giant to friends and family, he was loved by all.
He was preceded in death by brothers Charles "Chuck" McCoy and Jerry McCoy and survived by wife Monica McCoy, together for 52 years. He is also survived by daughters Melanie Gray, Micki (Derrick) Cox, Amanda (Andrew) Boysel and Caitlyn (Joshua) Napier; grandchildren Skylar, Savannah, Tanner, Brittany, Cassidy, Paris, Zachary and great-grandchildren Aydenn, Nova and Sebastian. He is further survived by siblings John McCoy, Howard McCoy, Lisa Lynch and Lori Lahvic and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A private memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 from 3:00 to 5:00pm at Newcomer, 10051 Brewster Lane, Powell, OH 43065 with military honors
