Esther Ann Mathew

February 8, 1943 — March 10, 2021

Esther Ann (Augustus) Mathew, age 78, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born February 8, 1943 in Fairmont, West Virginia to Martha Eleanor (Boyce) Devaul and Walter Price "Gus" Augustus.

Esther was married to her longtime friend and love, John Max Mathew for 58 wonderful years. Esther was a 1961 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and loved to love on people. She chose a career of serving others in retail and customer service. She had the greatest joy helping children bring their bears to life at Build-A-Bear Workshop, and working customer service at The Mall at Tuttle Crossing in Dublin, Ohio. It suited her servant heart. She especially enjoyed greeting the daily mall walkers and seeing all the children from the Tuttle Mall's Children's Club who loved receiving one of her special hugs. She was always there for anyone and everyone, welcoming them with her bright and inviting smile. Esther was an avid collector of Department 56 Snowbabies and Christmas Villages. She shared her love of coffee, her macaroni salad, and homemade Christmas cookies and fudge made with love. She enjoyed music, living and vacationing at the beach, supporting her grandchildren and their activities, THE Ohio State Buckeyes, the "Mom" Merrifield family reunions, her high school classmates, West Virginia, March Madness, telling stories, but most of all, her family.

Esther is survived by her loving husband John Mathew of Hilliard, Ohio, her children Valerie Kaser (Jeffrey) and John Michael Mathew, her granddaughters McKenna Ryan (Josh) and Lindsay Kaser, brother Alan Augustus of Fairmont, WV, sister-in-law Patricia Augustus of Worthington, WV, brothers-in-law James Lee Mathew of Rivesville, WV, Pastor Michael Mathew (Clara) of Nichols, SC, Wesley Earl Sims (Judy) of Garden City, MI, sister-in-law Mimi Swartout of Elkhart, IN, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends near and far.
