ETHEL M (SWEET) REED
Ethel S. Reed, age 97, died Sunday, October 11, 2009, after a short illness. Although she was a resident of the Sanctuary at Tuttle Crossing in Dublin, OH, she was a long-time resident of Sidney, NY.
She was born June 24, 1912 to Homer and Irma Sweet of Canajoharie and grew up in Michigan, Massachusetts and upstate New York, earning her bachelors degree from Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University). She was a schoolteacher for many years, including substitute teaching at Sidney, NY, and teaching full-time at Treadwell in the early 60's. Her husband, Donald, retired from Scintilla in Sidney (now Amphenol Aerospace) after a long career.
Ethel was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star. Since her office involved travels throughout Delaware and Sullivan counties, she made many friends. After Don's retirement, they moved to Florida, where Don taught college courses. After he retired from teaching, they moved to Hide-Away-Hills, Ohio to be close to their son and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Gordon and Sandra (Dublin, OH); her three granddaughters, Larra (Nate) Thomas, Heather (Marc) Frient, both of Dublin, and Shannon (Lance) Himes, of Hilliard, OH; six great grandchildren, Drake and Madeline Thomas, Claire and Emily Frient, and Owen and Lindsay Himes; and one sister, Bernice Whipple, of South Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, older son, Donald Jr., as well as her two brothers.
The family is having a private service and inurnment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester, NY.
We would like to thank all of the staff at the Sanctuary at Tuttle Crossing for their kindness shown to Ethel during her residency.
