Frances "Fran" McMichael

January 6, 1943 — December 8, 2024

Frances McMichael, known lovingly as Fran, passed away on December 8, 2024, in Powell, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that touched the lives of all who knew her. Born on January 6, 1943, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Fran’s vibrant spirit shone brightly throughout her life. She was a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and truly remarkable woman who dedicated over 35 years of her career to Biomedical Communications as an Administrative Assistant at The Ohio State University. Her commitment to education extended beyond her profession; she passionately taught a literacy program for Hispanic families and garnered numerous awards for her exceptional work. She had great faith as a Christian woman, who was very involved in her church, singing in the choir, teaching quilting, and helping in Sunday School classes.

Fran was an embodiment of joy, always finding the goodness in people. Her outgoing nature made her a beloved figure in her community, and her energy was infectious. Taco Bell employees recognized her by the sound of her voice, while staff at Home Goods, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls knew her by name from her many visits. She cherished her time spent traveling with her children and grandchildren to places like Disney, Florida, Arizona, Maryland, Las Vegas, Seattle, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Hershey, PA. Sailing in the Chesapeake Bay was one of her favorite adventures, creating lasting memories with loved ones, a testament to her love for family and adventure.

A talented artist, Fran found joy in her hobbies, from quilting, knitting and ceramics to painting and stained glass. Her green thumb flourished in her garden, nurturing plants with the same love and care she bestowed upon her family and friends. A dedicated Ohio State Buckeye fan, she wore her colors proudly and cheered passionately for her team. Her pride in her children and grandchildren was evident in everything she did—nothing brought her greater joy than their accomplishments.

Fran's greatest pride came from her children: Mark (Kerry) Eppley, Sharon (Damian) Sciulli, Matthew (Katherine) Eppley, and Nicole (Ryan) McMichael. She welcomed each of her grandchildren into her heart with open arms: Hannah (Joe) Wordeman, Chloe (Gabe) Eppley, Domenic Sciulli, Anthony Sciulli, Nico Sciulli, Rachel (Eric) Roberts, Brenna (Noah) Eversole, and Reed Eppley. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Ollie, Audrey, and Isla Wordeman. These relationships enriched Fran’s life immeasurably and were a source of immense joy and pride for her.

Though she has left this world, Fran’s compassionate spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert Gagne and Gladys Shuler, whose legacy of love undoubtedly shaped her nurturing soul.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Fran's life at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 10051 Brewster Lane in Powell, Ohio. Visitation will be held on December 13, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
