Fred E. Kern Iii

November 3, 1947 — April 19, 2022

Fred E. Kern, a gentle and loving rescuer of small animals, his wife, and any person in need, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2022.

Fred was born in Columbus in 1947 to mother Leona Mae Kern and father Fred E Kern Jr, both deceased.

He is survived by loving wife of 48+ years, Helen, and stepdaughter he raised, Laura, as well as son Fred Jeffrey Kern. He is also survived by sisters Diana Olson (Larry), Shirley Piispanen (Kenny), Mary Wilbur (Eric), Christina Miller, and Beverly Zimmerman ( Scott ), 3 nieces, and 2 nephews.

Fred had 4 loving grandchildren through Laura: Serenity, Skyler, Alexander, and Helena, and 2 Great grandchildren: Trent Bryson Pierce and Cloud Frederick Kuehner.

Fred graduated from Franklin Heights High School and worked for over 40 years in Information Technology first at the State of Ohio and then at BancOhio Bank. Following retirement from National City Bank Fred manned the Service Desk at Meijers in Westerville until his final retirement.

Fred spent his retirement golfing, rescuing feral cats, and bird watching from his favorite chair. He was also very active caring for a large yard and garden.

The family wishes to thank the army of doctors, nurses, and health professionals that enabled Fred to live his last years and days as actively as he always lived.

In accordance with Fred's wishes there will be no visiting hours or service. Donations to charity such as American Heart Association or cat welfare would be appreciated.
