Fruth
George William Fruth, 86, of Columbus, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born February 19, 1925, in Charleston, WV, son of the late George and Laura "Arbutus" (Spriegel) Fruth. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Fox and brother, Richard Lynn Fruth. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alice Marie (Wilson) Fruth; daughters, Nancy Lynn Moore Mayer and Cynthia Marie Fruth; sons, William Raymond Fruth, David Edward (Rae) Fruth, and Robert Andrew (Tina McGee) Fruth; grandchildren, Sara Nicole Fruth, Ryan David (Alyssa) Fruth, Randal Edwin Fruth and Roxana Marie Fruth and five great grandchildren.
He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from Northwestern University and his Masters of Science in Diesel Engineering degree from North Carolina State College. He was in the Naval ROTC while at Northwestern, active in the Navy Reserves and had achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander when he left the Navy. In 1950, George Fruth and Alice Wilson were married. They lived in a variety of cities, including Chicago, Milwaukee and Cleveland, before calling Columbus their home in 1962. George worked for the Defense Construction Supply Center (DCSC). George was a member of Clinton Heights Lutheran Church and the Columbus Rock and Mineral Society.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, 15 Clinton Heights, Columbus, with visitation in the hour prior to the memorial service.
