George E. Hakes, 74, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on Monday, May 31st, 2021. He was born February 20th, 1947, to Chesney and Joanna Rebecca Mildred (Moore) Hakes. George served in the U.S. Army from February 1966 - June 1972, including two tours of duty in Vietnam.
He was an active member of his church, The Naz, where he enjoyed spending time with his men's group on Tuesday mornings, and his small group on Wednesday evenings.
George was an excellent mechanic, and helped many of his friends and family keep their cars running through the 70's, 80's and 90's until his Parkinsons Disease made it difficult to work on small parts. He worked at Kal Kan for 22 years, retiring in 1995, as his Parkinson's disease progressed. George then bought a home PC, and became a "self taught" whiz, working on his own and helping others with their PC's. He enjoyed archery, camping and motorcycles through the years, as well as playing cards and spending time with his many, many friends.
George was married to his high school sweetheart, Kathryn (Kathy) Louise (Hixon) Hakes, for just over 55 years.
George Will be deeply missed by his wife and his children, Mary Elizabeth Baldwin, Joel Hakes, Dan Hakes, Debbie (Hakes) Wise; 12 Grandchildren; 12 Great-grandchildren; Brothers, Buck and Cary, and sister Pat.
He is proceeded in death by parents Chesney and Mildred, brother Ernie and sister Coletta
Friends may call at the Naz Church (GCCN) 4770 Hoover Rd, Grove City, OH 43123 on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 10:00am until time of memorial service at 10:30am. Interment will be held at a later date at Walnut Hill Cemetery.
