George E. Pinkel, 83, of Akron, OH, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Carriage Court in Grove City, OH. He was born May 29, 1926, in Buffalo, NY, son of the late Brayton and Margaret Sheehan Pinkel. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Pinkel and son, Gregory G. Pinkel. He served in the Navy during WWII and also served in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. George was an avid Ham Radio operator and enjoyed calligraphy and geneology. He retired from General Tire and Rubber Company with over 30 years of service. George is survived by his children, Kathleen (Gregory) Grinch and Gary (Vicki) Pinkel; stepchildren, Rodney (Linda) Robinson, Jana Robinson, Cynthia (James) Hollis and Phillip Robinson; brother, Edward (Alice) Pinkel; 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, February 15, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Rd. Akron, OH. Memorial service will be Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway Grove City, OH.
