George J. Swatik

June 7, 1929 — January 2, 2021

George John Swatik, age 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio following a brief illness. George was born in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in Fredericktown and Mount Vernon, Ohio.

He was blessed in having loving, caring and devoted parents, the late John and Ann Swatik. George lived in Minerva Park for nearly 40 years and most recently resided in Westerville in the Medallion Country Club community where he was blessed with wonderful neighbors. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1947 and Miami University in 1951 where he was a member of the TKE fraternity. From college, George was inducted into the Army and served in the Korean War. He was later assigned to military intelligence in Frankfort, Germany. George then started his 35-year career at F & R Lazarus and was eventually promoted to numerous executive positions. It was at the beginning of his Lazarus career that he met his beloved wife Margie, in an executive training program. Post Lazarus, George spent the next decade working for the Lerner division of The Limited as a retail executive. George was a long-time member of Central College Presbyterian Church and a social member at The Medallion Country Club in Westerville. George was extremely active in numerous organizations and activities while residing in Minerva Park. He was also an avid Ohio State and Cincinnati Bengals fan. George loved all animals especially his poodles Toto, Mickey and Mr. Elliott.

George is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years Margaret Swatik and sister Violette Fisher. He leaves to celebrate his life; his loving daughters, Susan (David) Specht, Julie (David) Wallace; grandchildren, Ashley (Sam Trahin) and Tyler (Specht) and Zachary (Wallace); great grandchild soon to arrive, Koa James (Trahin) and devoted sister, Lorraine (Szabo); brother-in-law James (Barbara) Demas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Due to the pandemic, there will be no visitation or calling hours.

A private church service is being planned for family at a future date.
