Gerald Eugene Shaner, 100, of Westerville, OH, passed away December 9th, 2024
Gerald E. Shaner was born on March 10th, 1924 in Delphos, OH to Ray and Hazel (Conkle) Shaner. CSM Shaner was a WWII, Korea, and Vietnam Veteran who retired from the Army with 33 years of service. He was awarded the Silver Star for action in the South Pacific in 1941. He was inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor in 2020. He earned an Associate Degree in Business from Columbus Community College. Gerald will be deeply missed by his wife, Freda of 76 years. He is survived by 4 children Darlene (Patrick) Jaquinto, Karen Perry, Thomas Shaner, and Randal Shaner. 4 grandchildren, Paul Perry, Kevin Perry, Nicole (John) Goetzman, and Danielle (Nicholas) Szymanski. 4 great-grandchildren, Faith Perry, Avery Stewart, Jackson Goetzman, and Wyatt Szymanski. Preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Hazel Shaner, brothers, Henry Shaner, Hobart Shaner, Arthur Shaner, and sister Mary Shobe and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be December 20th, 2024 from 12pm-1pm.
Funeral service will be Friday December 20th from 1pm-2pm with Reverend James Shaner officiating and burial will be in Kingswood Memorial Cemetery where military rights will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westerville Fire Department, 400 W. Main St. Westerville, OH 43081.
