Geraldine (Jerri) Joyce McKenzie was called home July 16th, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. She was born January 6th, 1937 to parents Everett and Madge Conkel. Jerri was raised in southern Ohio and graduated from Valley High School. After meeting Wilbur, the love of her life, she was married June 22, 1957. Jerri became a devoted wife and mother and dearly loved her family. She loved her church and was surrounded by many friends with whom she remained close throughout her life. Jerri had a way of putting others at ease and making them feel at home. She loved to travel with her family. Her home away from home was the Great Smoky Mountains. Some of the best memories for the family were times spent with Nanny and Pap at their favorite campground in Pigeon Forge. Jerri was a devoted employee of Mount Carmel West Hospital. She worked in the surgical waiting area providing information and comfort to countless families through their trying times. She faced her own trying times with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. The comfort that she provided to others was returned to her through her devoted husband of sixty five years. Wilbur's care for her was a remarkable testimony to the love that they always shared. Because of his unconditional love for her and dedication to her care she remained in the home they built together and was included in all the love of family gatherings. This love story continued an additional sixteen years. Jerri was preceded in death by her parents, (sisters) Helen Tomilson and Judy Chapman; (brothers) Fred, Jim, Ralph, Mike Conkel; (son in- law) Bill Riley.
Survived by husband of 65 years Wilbur McKenzie; (children) Wilbur (Sandy) McKenzie Jr., Debi Riley, Vicki (Kenny) Curry, Jeff McKenzie; (grandchildren) Kierston (Dan) Watts, Adam (Gretchen) McKenzie, Wyatt (Michelle) Riley, Jake Riley, Seth (Laura) Curry, Kayla (Darren) Cox; Nine great grandchildren; (brother) Leo Conkel; (sisters) Dorothy Doss and Marilyn Atkins. Special thanks to Debi, Vicki and Kayla for their assistance in Jerri's final months of care.
