Gertrude Juanita Grubb, aged 92, born in Maybeury, West Virginia, November 8, 1920, died peacefully in the early morning of June 24, 2013, at her daughter's side. She was preceded in death by her son, John Douglas Garland, grandson Charles Douglas Tomlinson, and all eight of her brothers and sisters. Survived by four loving daughters, Derlene Lee, Billie Jean Cobb, Linda Tomlinson, and Karin Cash; grandchildren, Cullen McMillin, Marlena McMillin, Selena McMillin, Robert Lee, Jill Horton, Zane Cobb, Laura Tomlinson, William Cash III, Andrew Cash, John Cash; twelve great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Gertrude was a class act, but she never forgot her Virginia mountain roots. She was an intelligent woman, engaging to talk to, and always curious about the world. She was a good listener and was always there to share her wisdom and advice. Gertrude was a woman of extraordinary talents: she had a knack for business and an eye for a bargain. She owned an antique shop, she was a collector of all things, and she was a fierce bluffer at poker. Gertrude loved her children and grandchildren, music of all kinds, art, and nature. She was always, always young at heart.
To be in her presence was to experience love, laughter, and life. She had a wonderful sense of humor; everyone wanted to be with charismatic Grandma. None of us knew how much time would be left, but we were each blessed to have the chance to say goodbye before she passed, and she was at peace with all at the end.
Visitation Wednesday, June 26, 2013, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 a.m., at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio. Burial to follow at Alton Cemetery, Galloway, Ohio.
