Gilbert Russell Mason Sr.
February 27, 1935, Gilbert Russell Mason, was born to Mildred and Lucius Mason. February 3, 2025, he passed from this life to join his wife, Florence (Gussler), daughter, Rebecca "Beckie" Holland, and sons, Gilbert "Russ" and Danny Mason. Also preceding him in death are his siblings, Ruth Cooper, Patricia Holmes, Jerry and Louis Mason; step-father, Gilbert Robey and several other loving family members and friends including, Skeeter and Bill.
From the time he was young, Gib, he was an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman. He lived on the water and in the woods for much of his life. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio, where he learned the trade that he would do most of his life. He specialized in flooring, countertops, and other home remodeling projects. He married his wife, Flo, in 1957 and they went on to have 5 children. After getting married, he was called to serve in the United States Army, where he operated tanks and eventually became a cook. After returning home from Germany, he was a real go-getter. He opened his own company, Mason Tile & Linoleum. His business expanded over the years to become Mason Tile Inc. where along with his sons, sons-in-law, and many family and friends, traveled the country doing tile floors for Bob Evans, Applebees, Frisch's and more. Many fond memories were made and he was very proud of his success.
Gib was a member of Lockbourne Road Baptist Church, where he and his wife raised their children. He enjoyed the trips to Judson Hills with his church family. Later in life he attended Christian Life Church, where he made new church friends and helped with their bread pantry.
Gib was a member of York Lodge 563 F & AM and a Boy Scout leader for troop 562. He made many friends and memories with those he met.
But then he became a papaw. He couldn't contain his joy or his ornery streak. Often sneaking pickles, chocolate, or Rootie tootie (Rootbeer) to them as babies. He enjoyed trips with them to Canada, Texas, Frankenmuth, and so many more.
After a sudden illness, Gib was taken home to London where he had lived 53 years. Surrounded by love, he peacefully passed.
Left to survive him are his two children and their spouses, Jeffrey and Joan Mason and Samantha and Albert Tipton; son-in-law, Dale Holland daughters-in-law, Amy Mason and Sharon Mason; grandchildren, Todd, Nicholas, Jason, Jon, Casey, Ryan, Eli, Kirstyn, Justin, Ashley, Chelsi, Kammilee, Levi, and Haleigh; all of their spouses; and 19 great-grandchildren; several dear friends and family, Ray and Becky Malone, Ivory Bailey, Bud Armentrout, Rose Parsons, Bobbie Sherman, Joann and Joe Nicodemus, Lois Scheidegger, and Elizabeth Spohn.
We would like to thank everyone for the love, prayers, kindness, and sympathy.
