Gracie Mae Cook

Gracie Mae (Sharp) Cook of Grove City, Ohio, passed away at the age of 71 in Columbus, Ohio, on December 30, 2023. She was surrounded by family and friends who sang to and expressed their love for her. Born on November 9, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio, Gracie is a long-time Grove City resident and 1971 graduate of GCHS.
Carrying Gracie's loving memory with them are her surviving family members: husband Joe Cook; son Steven Michael (Jennifer) Bishop; granddaughters Emilie and Nora Bishop; grandchildren Madilynn, Jacob Charlee, and Hazlee Cook; sisters Betty (Sharp) Downey and Jeannie Sharp; stepsons Joe (Jennifer) Cook, Jr. and Greg Cook; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Gracie was preceded in death by her parents Orville Sharp and Martha (Evans) Sharp; sisters Judy Kay, Baby Sharp, Linda (Sharp) Miller; and brother James O. Sharp.
Some of Gracie's favorite companions in life were her pets Pup, Sparkey, Buttercup, Babycakes, and Socks all of whom were rescues. She so loved her animals.
Gracie retired from Pitney Bowes in 2022 after more than 12 years as a supervisor. Prior to this role, she worked for many years at Borders Group shipping facility.
Gracie's husband Joe was the love of her life, referring to him as Dad or Daddy and him to her as Mom or Mommy. It was the cutest thing hearing them refer to each other this way. Every part of their day revolved around each other.
Gracie was the most loving, caring, kind soul you would ever want to meet. If you knew her, you loved her. She was a very gentle, soft-spoken woman.
She loved reading daily her Bible and Guideposts, and she made entries of her daily life in her journals as a way to record the story of her life. She inherited that practice from her mother.
Gracie's grandchildren always looked forward to her cards and care packages with thoughtful notes and gifts carefully chosen for each of them. They loved decorating gingerbread cookies with her each year and seeing what special donuts Gracie would bring from Jolly Pirate.
You are invited to celebrate Gracie's life on Monday, January 8, 2023, at Newcomer Funeral Home - Southwest Chapel located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio, 43123. Viewing will begin at 11am followed by a memorial service at 12pm.
The family encourages those attending to honor Gracie by wearing Cincinnati Bengals or Ohio State apparel, or just casual dress if you prefer.
