Harold L. Shop "Shoppie", 88, of Minerva Park, went home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2008. He was born November 26, 1919, in Columbus, son of the late Roy and Garret Shop. Beloved husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, Shoppie is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Marguerite Smith Shop; brother, Robert Shop; sister, Francis Hoskinson; brother and sister-in-laws, Tom Smith and Leila Jean Smith. He was a 1938 graduate of South H.S. Veteran of the U.S. 10th Army serving in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign during WWII from 1941-1945 where he earned the rank of Tec 5, Lance Corporal and 3 Bronze Stars for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations against the enemy with the 106th Infantry, Headquarter Company, 27th Division in the battles of Makin, Majuro, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Tinian, Saipan and Okinawa. Shoppie was the owner and operator of the Shop Insurance Agency, past President of the Westerville Kiwanis Club and Captian and founding member in the Minerva Park Fire Dept. He was also an avid bowler and golfer. Harold is survived by his sons, Merrille (Tina) and Chris Shop; daughter, Sue Shop; sister, Charlene (Herb) Irwin; grandchildren, Stephanie, Kevin and Kayla Shop; brother and sister's-in-law, Jim (Carolyn) Smith, Vera Shop and Edith Smith. Visitation will be Monday, March 17, 2008 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home N.E. Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Grove Cemetery.
