Harriet Herron Seedle passed on Monday, July 24th, peacefully, in the presence of family, at the age of 85. She had reached the end of a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis, which doctors initially told her would be quite short. But no one was surprised when Harriet defied her prognosis and spent several more years with her family, for two reasons.
First, she had long been dedicated to her health and taking care of her body — she was never without an impressive array of vitamins, and a little spiral bound notebook she tracked her meals in. She was a dogged member of the Silver Sneakers at the YMCA, where she could often be seen with weights in hand.
Second, she was an incredibly stubborn woman. Her grip was iron-strong when she held your hand or wrapped her arm around you.
Strong hands, perhaps, from her years playing piano. She was an accomplished musician from an early age, leading to her acceptance into the prestigious American Conservatory of Music. But she chose to stay close to her home in Columbus.
Mutual friends introduced Harriet to her husband Harold when he pulled up one day on Burgess and Broad in his family's milk delivery truck. Soon they were married and raising two ornery, rambunctious daughters on a long country road. Harriet cared deeply for Lorri (David) and Marla (Bob), who survive her and carry on her love of a good, salted, margarita.
After their girls were grown up, Harold and Harriet traveled the country, in their 5th wheel camper. They visited Marla in Arizona, where Harriet led the local pool team to their first championship. In Florida, they fished the rivers and laid back on the colorful beaches.
In Columbus she remained surrounded by family: she held her grandchildren Kelly (Nick), Raechel, and Eli, and great-grandchildren Gannon, Lyndon, and Emaleah, and became known as "Granny."
For all these things she'll be remembered. Friends and family are gathering on Wednesday, August 2nd, 5-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123.
