Helen Virginia Preston Pack, aged 100, died on Thursday December 29, 2022 while a
resident at The Inn at Winchester Trail in Canal Winchester, Ohio.
Born July 27, 1922 in Georges Creek, Kentucky, Helen was the daughter of Reverend
Jay Francis Preston and Anna Laura Marie Burchett Preston, who both preceded her in
death.
Helen was the third child and the oldest daughter in a family of thirteen children. Helen
is preceded in death by seven brothers—Gerald, John B, Stanley, Will Aubrey, Jack,
Donald and Edward Leon Preston and four sisters—Amanda Troutman, Ruby Lee
Preston, Christine Caudill, and Jean Carol Isaac. Helen is survived by her youngest
sister Glenda Sue O'Neil of Nicholasville, Kentucky, sister-in-law Dorothy Preston of
Dayton, Ohio and brother-in-law Gallie Isaac, Jr. of Louisa, Kentucky.
At the age of 16 1/2 years old Helen accepted Christ into her heart and was baptized
by her father when she was 17 years old at Bell's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Helen graduated with the Class of 1941 from Louisa High School in Louisa, Kentucky.
On November 7, 1941 Helen married Lloyd Pack in Georges Creek, Kentucky in the
Preston family home. Lloyd and Helen were married for 59 years until Lloyd's passing
in March 2001. Helen and Lloyd started their married life in Kentucky. During Lloyd's
service in the US Coast Guard during World War II (1943-1946), they lived in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
After the war, they moved to Plain City, Ohio and later to Columbus, Ohio. In 1956 they
moved to a farm in Pataskala, Ohio where she lived for 63 years. She loved her farm
house on 19 acres and she and Lloyd spent much of their spare time clearing the land,
gardening and planting flowers and working hard to keep the property looking
beautiful. Helen loved quilting, crocheting, needle point and completing crossword
puzzles. She also enjoyed staying in touch with her large family and enjoyed writing
and receiving letters and cards. She was also the one that kept family records and
family history to pass on to the younger generations of the family. She was known for
her amazing apple pies and always had fresh vegetables and fruit that she served from
her garden. The most important part of Helen's life, however, was her love for the Lord.
Helen became a member of Welch Avenue Free Will Baptist Church shortly after its
founding in the early 1950s. This church later became the Heritage Free Will Baptist
Church, to which she remained a member until her passing. She faithfully served as a
Sunday school teacher in Free Will Baptist Churches for 73 years, from age 18 to age
91.
Helen worked as a cashier/supervisor at Lincoln Management in Columbus, Ohio for
over 20 years and retired in 1987.
Helen is survived by her two sons and their spouses: Robert (Bob) Pack and his wife
Karen of Canal Winchester, Ohio and Edward Pack and his wife Marie of Blanchard,
Oklahoma.
Five Grandchildren: Teresa Pack Edic (Matt) of Columbus, Ohio, Tim Pack (Beth) of
