Henry Span, 86, went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 15, 2021.
He is preceded in death by his parents Norman and Gussie Spann. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; his children, Henry Spann, Jr, Aletha Johnson (Steve), Ronnie Spann (Sharon), Jeanell Turner (Aaron), Annie Spann, Wendy Spann, Tami Washington (Al); sister Lula Bell Days, brother, Pastor L.C . Spann (Mary); brothers-in law-Charles Cook (Bonnie) and Billie Cook (Aide); mother-in-law, Pearlie Rogers; grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Henry was an outdoorsman. Over the years, beagles Ring, Rock, Franklin and Buddy were faithful hunting companions, along with long time friend, Page.
After retiring from the City of Columbus, close to home and Fremont fishing trips with his wife were a source of enjoyment and relaxation.
And, he took great pride in the summer garden. Although, the hunter in him manifested when the rabbits and deer wanted to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Many summer days were filled with churning homemade ice cream, sipping sweet tea or fresh squeezed lemonade while working on an outdoor project and barbecues.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; he faithfully served his church and showed kindness and compassion to others.
Visitation will be at Newcomer Funeral Home, 10051 Brewster Lane in Powell, Ohio on Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 10:00am - 12:00pm with the service immediately following at 12:00pm. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery, Columbus, OH.
