Herbert E. Wertz, 86, of Columbus, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the Kobacker House. He was born March 10, 1925 in Pleasantville, son of the late John and Ethel Fenstermacher Wertz. In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his son, Jack Wertz. He was a former basketball star at Pleasantville High School and graduated from Columbus North High School in 1943. Herb served in the Navy during WWII and also attended OSU. He was an avid Buckeyes fan. Herb is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nina Taylor Wertz; daughters, Karen (Matt) Markley, Linda McCloskey and Diana (Bob) Needham; son, Wayne Wertz; grandchildren, Laura (Andy) Buck, John Wertz, Krista (Jack) Knuttila, Dillon and Grant Markley, Jennifer Pranger, Scott Reeves and Christopher Needham; great grandsons, Nathaniel Buck, Jackson Knuttila, Ben Jovan and Janelle Jaden Pranger. Arrangements have been entrusted Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus. Herb was a devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
