Howard K. Todd, a cherished husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather, passed away on March 20, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on November 4, 1937, in Eaton, West Virginia, Howard lived a life dedicated to others, one that would leave an indelible mark on all who knew him. His journey through life was characterized by his loving nature, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Howard dedicated 30 years of his life to the laborers' union, ultimately retiring from Kokosing Construction. He took great pride in his work, especially in building bridges around Columbus, Ohio. A certified mechanic and a true jack of all trades, he was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. His hard work and dedication extended beyond his career; he poured his heart into his passions, including maintaining his beloved vegetable and flower garden, where rose bushes blossomed under his careful attention.
His military service in the Army from 1961 to 1963, including 18 months in Germany, shaped the courageous man he became and further instilled values of discipline and commitment. Howard's legacy is laced with fond memories of travel, having journeyed across the United States and Canada with his loved ones. Among his favorite destinations were Myrtle Beach and Daytona, Florida, where the sun-soaked beaches welcomed him and his family.
Howard’s most profound treasure was his family. He was a proud husband to Vonda for 67 remarkable years, a cherished father to his sons Howard (Cindy) and Jeff (Diane), and an adoring grandfather to Kristin Todd, Jarred Todd, Matthew (Shelby) Todd, Alyssa Todd, and Sarah (Adam) Barnes. He was particularly delighted by the arrival of his great-grandson, Dakota Todd. Howard had a special nickname for each of his grandchildren, a testament to the love he carried for them.
In his gentle and compassionate manner, Howard expressed his love frequently, reminding those around him that affection is a cornerstone of enduring relationships. He had a passion for old cars and NASCAR that filled his days with joy, while his kindness and warmth always drew people to him. His family and friends will remember him for his hard-working attitude and dedication, which inspired many.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Vonda; children, Howard (Cindy) and Jeff (Diane); grandchildren, Kristin Todd, Jarred Todd, Matthew (Shelby) Todd, Alyssa Todd, and Sarah (Adam) Barnes; great-grandson Dakota Todd; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law, Penny.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Shirly and Francis (Bell); his brother, Danny Todd; his sister, Virginia (Ted) Deaton; and his infant brother. They, along with countless souls who crossed his path, await his warm embrace in eternity.
Visitation will be held on March 27, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest in Grove City, Ohio, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 PM. A graveside service will take place at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens in Canal Winchester, Ohio, at 2:30 PM.
As the family carries his memory forward, they find solace in the profound difference Howard made in their lives and the lives of all who knew him. His legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering dedication will forever be cherished in their hearts.
