Hunter Skaggs Jr. of Grandview Heights passed away at the age of 89 on March 7th, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 6th, 1932, in Terryville, a small town in Lawrence County, Kentucky, to the late Hunter Skaggs Sr. and Lizzie Ann (McKenzie) Skaggs. Hunter was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean War. He married his wife, the late Rhilda Gay (Smith) Skaggs on August 18th, 1956, and the two would spend the next 62 years of their lives together before her passing in October 2018. After a long career in facility maintenance, specializing in HVAC, he retired from National City Bank in 1997.
Hunter kept himself busy by being the ultimate "Mr. Fix It" for anyone who needed a hand with any project. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking, but his favorite thing was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who knew him as "Pap" and he bragged about them often. A loyal and dedicated worker, husband, father, and friend, he touched the lives of all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife and his daughter Jeffrey Lynn (Skaggs) Ash. Also preceding him in death are brothers Elzie Skaggs, Carl Skaggs, Hurl Skaggs, Escom Skaggs, and sister Lois Skaggs. He is survived by his children Margaret (Manuel) Lopes, Hunter (Melissa) Skaggs, Son-in-law Gordon Ash. He is survived by his brother, Wilbur (Cora) Skaggs, sister-in-law Doris Pelphrey, and brother-in-law Bill (Sue) Smith. His legacy also lives on through his grandchildren, Stephen (Becky) Lopes, Hunter Andrew (Misty) Skaggs, and Christopher (Cathy) Skaggs, as well as his great-grandchildren, Caleb Lopes, Madelyn & Hannah Skaggs, and Connor & Camryn Skaggs, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call Sunday, March 13, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Grove City at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio 43123, where a funeral service will take place on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Galloway Cemetery, Galloway, Ohio.
