Idella Whitmore, 88, of Columbus, OH, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 18, 2012. She died peacefully in her sleep.
Idella was born to the late Pearle and Aretha Gilliland, March 17, 1924 in Rising Sun, OH. She graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1942. She married the late John W. Whitmore in 1945. Idella was a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II when she worked for the Westinghouse Company in Mansfield, OH. Throughout her marriage of fifty-four years, she worked alongside her husband to start several successful businesses in Marysville and Columbus, OH. Idella was a member of Karl Road Baptist Church.
She was a gifted seamstress who devoted many hours to sewing for family and friends. She also loved nature and gardening. Idella will always be remembered as one who thought of others before self.
She is survived by son, John L. Whitmore, daughter, Deanna (David) West, granddaughters, Brittany (Patrick) Tedesco and Stacie (Elvin) Leonardo, great-grandson, Bryan Leonardo, brothers, Darrel, Wilbur and Ronald (Flora) Gilliland. Idella was preceded in death by brothers, Acel, Walter and Stanley Gilliland, sister, Virginia. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Mt. Herman Cemetery in Marysville, OH.
