Obituary for J. James Redman
Son of the late James M. and Marcia E. (Toops) Redman. Reared by paternal grandparents, Peter and Priscilla Redman, and aunt, Frances Redman. Native of Harrisburg, but spent adult life in Columbus. Member of the Harrisburg United Methodist Church, Harrisburg and Clarks Lakes Senor Citizens, Moose Lodge #11, Life member of the K. of P. Lodge No. 64, Circleville, Hilliard Grange No. 2715 and Franklin County Pomona Grange No. 22. Professor emeritus Bliss College and retired from the Franklin County Auditor's office. Longtime teacher and coach, and former high school principal and college dean. Listed in the Guinness Book of Records and the National Basketball Hall of Fame. Member of the Buckeye Intercollegiate Conference Hall of Fame and president. Republican ward committeeman for over 20 years. Co-founder of the first 4-H outdoor cookery club in America. Longtime leader of the 4-H clubs in Harrisburg. Winner of the state 4-H Alumni, Agonis and Sideliners awards, also recipient of honorariums from the City of Columbus, Ohio House and Senate. Member of the University of Cincinnati Alumni, also attended Capital and Ohio State Universities. Listed in eight Who's Whos, a published lyricist, poet, drama critic, and lecturer. He was the first individual member taken into the Ohio Community Theatre Association. He was a former assistant postmaster, editor of two high school sports magazines, editor of a column for a national monthly and poetry editor and correspondent for a weekly newspaper. A Kentucky Colonel and multi-scholarship winner. Former professional baseball scout and football and basketball scout for major universities. Coached three national business college basketball champions and three times named Business College Basketball Coach of the World. Past president of Ohio Poetry Day, Darby Township Alumni and Harrisburg Senior Citizens. Survived by nephew Steve (Cindy) Redman, Lawrence, GA, niece Karen (Revis) Carter, Duchesne, UT, and close cousin Patsy Winfough, Grove City, Oh.
