Jack Elmore Wooten, age 90, of Gahanna, Ohio, passed away on April 9, 2025, in Westerville, Ohio.
Jack was born on June 29, 1934, in Columbus, Ohio, to Theodore William Wooten and Susie Ann Ralston. He attended school in Westerville and was raised by his stepfather, Ira Arthur Fulks.
A true “jack-of-all-trades,” Jack spent much of his life working independently in construction—hanging storm doors and windows, installing siding, and building more than one house (and quite a few garages). He had a knack for garage sales, and was once known to have gone to one and bought the garage itself.
Jack’s love of music began early, inspired by his dad, Art, performing together on radio and television as part of “The Echo Valley Folks,” playing guitar, fiddle, and mandolin. That passion stayed with him throughout life.
Since the 1980s, Jack spent his winters in Florida, where he found joy boating and fishing on Lake Okeechobee—often staying out all night under the stars.
Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Loradell Wooten; his parents, Ted and Susie; siblings Wayne (June), Tom, and Ruth (Jim); his stepfather, Ira Fulks; and his faithful feline companion, Tippy.
He is survived by his wife, Noella Turcot; his children, Audie Wooten (Bethanne) and Rita Shapter; grandchildren Jonas Wooten, Jacob Wooten, Gabe Wooten, Abby Wooten (Anthony Williams), Breanna Meekings (Jai), and Miranda Shapter; and great-grandchildren Tess (Creamer), Kendrick, and Mina Williams and Emerson and Carson Meekings. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mona (Tom), and many beloved nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at St. Ann’s Hospital for the compassionate care they provided during Jack’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jack’s name to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at his daughter’s home in Columbus on Monday, April 28, 2025 from 4pm to 6pm. No graveside services will be held.
