James A. Batey, 81, born on November 13, 1924, evolved to the next phase of life on June 4, 2006, leaving for heaven but survived and continually missed by wife of 59 years, Eileen R. Batey, his three children, Gene L. Batey, James H. Batey (Karen S. Batey), and Ann E. Carpico, and his grandchildren, Benjamin K. Batey, Danielle A. Carpico, Terry L. Batey, Kimberly A. Carpico, and Aaron J. Batey. He is also survived by his Uncle, Harold Eugene Foreman and preceded in death by his beloved sister, Barbara A. Gilbert. James A. Batey, son of Benjamin and Blanche Foreman-Batey, was a survivor of all five major battles of the European theater during WWII, including Normandy. (Battle of the Bulge) Northern France, Central Europe, The Rhineland, and Ardennes, heroically receiving a purple heart. Some years after returning home from his combat experiences, he ironically lost his left arm in a farm accident. James A. Batey worked much of his professional life in a wide range of sales fields including, farm products, appliances, petroleum, spices, and floor coverings, including Batey Distributors/Carpet Freight Warehouse. He was a member of the Johnstown Independent Baptist Church, The American Legion, (Gahanna Post) and The Franklin County Farm Bureau. James A. Batey touched so many lives with his unique character traits, and will be eternally loved, missed, and remembered. Public Visitations will be at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 East Dublin-Granville Road in Columbus, Ohio, Thursday, June 8, 2006 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Funeral Services are to be conducted at the Johnstown Independent Baptist Church, 7397 Johnstown-Alexandria Road Johnstown, Ohio on Friday, June 9, at 10:00 A.M.
