James E. "Uncle James" Artis, 89, of Urbancrest, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010 at his residence. He was born July 17, 1920, in Jeffersonville, son of the late Vernie and Aressa Morgan Artis. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Diggs, Eliza Bailey, Dorothy Gills and Verna Artis. He served in the Army during WWII and was a 35 year member of Union Baptist Church. James is survived by his niece and caregiver, Christine Bailey; brother-in-law, William Diggs; special friend, Retha Brown and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Friday, February 12, 2010 from 12:00-1:00 PM at Union Baptist Church, 3452 1st Ave. Urbancrest, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM, with Pastor E. Richard McDaniel, officiating. Interment will be in Green Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway Grove City.
