James William Davis, 72, went home to be with the Lord and his wife on Sunday, September 17, 2023 in Canal Winchester, Ohio.
He was born on February 24, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Bill and Mary Davis.
James is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Davis.
James is survived by his children, Ashley (Evan) Wilson, Ryan (Jennifer) Davis, Ben (Anna) Davis; grandchildren, Skylar, Anna, Carter, Dexter, Jameson, Sidney, Ryan Jr., Lorelei, Hendrik, Henlee and a host of family and friends.
James retired from the State of Ohio Auditor's Office after 25 years of service. In retirement, he enjoyed filling his days attending flea markets and auctions.
James was an avid postcard, stamp and coin collector. He loved telling jokes and stories, over and over again. James was a big OSU fan, which is where he met his wife. He passed his love of the Buckeyes to his sons. James was a Boy Scout in his youth. He graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School Class of 1969.
James and Peggy loved traveling together. He loved going to movies with Ryan, discussing sports with Ben, and having dinner at Ashley's house. James loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as Pappy.
James and his family were active members of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, where they attended regularly. He enjoyed having conversations with the Hospice chaplain.
Family will receive friends on Friday, September 22, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Columbus Northeast Chapel, 3047 East Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio 43231, followed immediately by a funeral service at 1:00 pm also at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Columbus Northeast Chapel. A procession will follow the funeral service to Fairview Memorial Park, where he will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ohio Living Hospice in James's honor.
