In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his siblings Jack Flanigan, Patricia Flanigan, Tom Flanigan and Marge Flanigan Townsley.
Jim was a proud and doting family man. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 55 years Joyce Flanigan. Jim will be sorely missed by his children Patrick (Holly) Flanigan, Kevin (Sarah) Flanigan and Megan (Andrew) Jalbrzikowski. His grandchildren Benjamin, Jillian and James brought Jim so much joy and laughter.
After graduating from Elder high school, Jim, a devout Catholic, spent time in the Glenmary Brotherhood. Jim went on to graduate Thomas Moore University. He met his future wife Joyce in the library where he was trying to smooth talk his way to her French homework. The rest is history. He moved his family to Columbus in 1980.
Jim was an avid Ohio sports fan. He could be seen, and mostly heard, cheering and cursing on his favorite teams (Columbus Blue Jackets, Reds, Guardians and the Ohio State Buckeyes). He was known among his children for his colorful nicknames, his silliness and his infectious smile. Jim always enjoyed the finest cuisines his hometown had to offer, namely Goetta, Skyline Chili and Graeters. The sweet tooth this jovial man had could not be denied. His hand was caught often in the candy jar. Jim had an eclectic taste in music ranging from Il Divo to Queen to the Eagles.
