James “Jim” Goodwillie, 74, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024.
Born on June 23, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, Jim spent his early years in the Motor City and graduated from Central Michigan University where he played football. Jim later moved to Columbus, Ohio, his home for the past 40 years.
Jim was a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Known for his kindness, humility, and warm presence, Jim had an incredible ability to connect with anyone—he truly never met a stranger. With a sharp wit and endless stories to tell, he filled countless rooms with laughter. A devoted sports fan, Jim could often be found enjoying a game, but his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Mary (Griffith) Goodwillie and James Goodwillie. He is survived by his beloved life partner, Margie Herron; his three children, Colleen LeMasters, Lauren (Daniel) Harris, and Steven (Katja) Goodwillie; and six, soon to be seven, grandchildren: Connor and Caden LeMasters; Griffin, Maxwell, and Vivian Harris; and Nora Goodwillie, with Lukas Goodwillie expected in December 2024. Jim is also survived by his three sisters, Janet Szynkowski, Anne Agius, and Joan Caruana, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim’s kindness, humor, and love for his family will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of Jim’s life to be held at a later date. Details to come.
