James L. Hazen, age 75, of Powell, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2021. He was born on May 24, 1946 in Meadville, PA, to the late Victor and Mae (Krohe) Hazen.
Jim graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, in 1968. He went on to work for Abbott Laboratories out of North Chicago. He enjoyed a long career with Abbott, where he was highly regarded as an outstanding salesperson and a dedicated leader. Jim worked as both a product manager and a district manager before retiring in 2001.
He married his beloved wife of 43 years, Kathy (Byrne), in 1978 in Rochester, NY. From there, they relocated to Virginia Beach, VA. for several years before settling in Columbus, OH.
Jim was an avid cyclist and enjoyed riding the Olentangy bike trail at every opportunity. He was also a passionate fan of major league baseball, especially his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates. However, his biggest love was serving the Lord and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was deeply involved in his church, dedicated to making disciples through adult small groups. In both his personal and professional life, Jim invested deeply in people. He leaves a tremendous legacy of souls who gave their lives to Christ as a direct result of his influence. While Jim's family grieves the loss of a husband, father and grandfather, they rejoice that he is now in the presence of our heavenly father, hearing the words he always longed to hear, "well done, good and faithful servant".
Jim is survived by his wife; daughter Susan (Jeff) Dage; step children: Pam (Rodney) Cobb and Craig (Kristi) Rose and seven grandchildren: Lauren, Joshua, Jack, Rebekah, Alaina, Brynna and William.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ellen Bloom and his granddaughter, Sarah Dage.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Meadow Park Church of God, 2425 Bethel Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43220. Family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Service to immediately follow.
