James Cotton Leverton

December 27, 1955 — January 28, 2023

James Cotton Leverton passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at the age of 67 at Ohio State East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He will always be remembered as a loving brother, father, grandfather, uncle, "Master of the Universe, Sir!", devout Christian, and friend to all that knew him.

He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on December 27th, 1955 to Billye Joyce Cotton Leverton (Conder) and Charles William Leverton. He grew up in North Dallas with his siblings, Bill and Martha. He is preceded in death by Joanna Lou Crawford (Married 1975-Divorced 1976) with which they had Jacob Shane Crawford; and Katherine Lee Cooper (Married 1978-Divorced 1987) with which they had Keira Anne Leverton, Rayna Lee Leverton (Northrup), and Jason Albert Leverton. He is also preceded in death by his older brother, Bill Leverton.

James (Jim) Leverton was smart, honest, hardworking, loyal, stubborn, witty, and quick to see the humor in everyday situations. While sometimes jokingly and lovingly referred to as a "curmudgeon" or "Old Man" by his children, there was no denying that he could command a room with his charisma. He was a brilliant electrician, and he worked hard all his life. He was a few class hours shy of completing his engineering degree at OSU at the age of 67.

He was an avid World of Warcraft player, for years, and he and his children and grandchildren had many virtual adventures together in the game. He leaves behind many dear friends in "Definitive", of which he was one of the guild masters. There will be an in-game memorial service for him at a later date, conducted by his fellow guild master, and friend, Linda Sullivan.

Jim enjoyed building working rockets with his grandchildren as well as putting together models of warships, and various aircraft. He imbued a love of Star Trek, Doctor Who, Sci-Fi, anime, and a sense of humor into his children. He notably taught some of his children and grandchildren how to drive,

He always demonstrated a sense of perseverance, despite painful ailments in his later years that would knock a lesser man down. He showed up for work (In a job he was so proud to have), family events, and obligations without complaint. He leaves a legacy of always trying to "do the next right thing", as he would often say. He was the patriarch of our family. He was a good man. His passing brings profound and incalculable loss. He is deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

James is survived by the following family; His sister, Martha Rushing and husband Randy Rushing of Wenatchee Washington; His sister in law, Bonnie Leverton of New Mexico; His children, Jacob Shane Crawford and wife Jennifer Crawford of Granite Bay, California, Keira Anne Leverton of Dallas, Tx, Rayna Lee Northup and husband Tom Northrup of Columbus Ohio, and Jason Albert Leverton of Columbus Ohio; His grandchildren, Aidan Crawford, Dylan Crawford, Benjamin Crawford, Madison Crawford, James Herschel Thomas Northrup, Katherine Anne Northrup, and Lillyana Emma Northrup. His nieces and nephews include Myrna and Don Hall, Bill and Donna Cuellar, and Joe and Connie Earll.

A small funeral service will be held at Laurel Canyon Church of Christ at 409 McNaughten Rd. Columbus, OH 43213 on Friday, February 3rd at 1pm.
