James Michael Riley

James "Mike" Michael Riley, age 73, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 20, 2022. He was born on June 21, 1949 in Columbus, Ohio. Mike is preceded in death by his father, James G. Riley and a precious grandchild he is now able to enjoy in Heaven.
In 1969, Mike married his loving and devoted wife, Connie. In the 53 years of marriage, Mike enjoyed traveling and camping with Connie. Among their many travels, the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina were their favorite destinations.
In addition to Connie, Mike is survived by his mother, Mary Riley of Columbus; sons, Andrew (Mellenda) Riley of Ashville, Daniel (Jessica) Riley of Orient; grandchildren he adored, Abby, Sam, Aubree, Madelyn, Ben; sister, Sheryl (Steve) Douglas; brothers, Rick (Anita) Riley, Don (Janet) Riley; and sister, Lynda (Dave) Kowalski.
Mike loved playing pickleball and made many wonderful friends while playing the game.
Mike retired from Columbia Gas in 2005 after 37-1/2 years of service.
He proudly served his country in the Army. While serving in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star.
Mike accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 5 years old. While being a child of God for 68 years, Mike was given many opportunities to serve the Lord in many capacities. From custodial services and handyman work to Sunday school teacher and youth leader, which led to several mission trips. Mike also enjoyed filling in as pulpit supply when called upon. Mike loved greeting folks each Sunday at the door of New Life Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2022 and 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at New Life Baptist Church, 3989 Neff Rd. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 followed by burial at Concord Cemetery, 6244 Hoover Rd. Mike's friend and pastor, Michael Purdon of New Life Baptist Church, will be officiating.
