James F. Oberla, 92, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2022.
Jim was born June 11, 1929 in Calumet City, Illinois and was the son of Lillie Ester Justice and Laurence Elmer Oberla.
Jim joined the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was posted near Columbus for training, where he met his wife, Ruth.
Jim and Ruth settled in Columbus where they raised their three children.
Upon Jim's retirement from a long career with General Electric, they moved to Centerburg, Ohio.
Winters were spent in Mesa, Arizona where they enjoyed hiking and driving their jeep off-road into the mountains.
Jim was a curious person, had a knack for fixing anything mechanical and was fascinated by airplanes and hummingbirds.
He and Ruth traveled extensively, visiting all 7 continents, over 80 countries and road trips to 49 states.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his dear wife, Ruth, of 63 years, daughter, Lorinda, sisters, Mabel, Dorothy, June and Nancy and brother, Joseph. Jim is survived by daughter, Valerie (Joel) Moore; son, James (Rebecca); grandchildren, Eric Oberla, Stephen (Ashley) Moore, Evan (Becca) Oberla, Sean Moore, Abigail Oberla and Anna Oberla; great-grandchildren, Adam, Riley and Easton Moore.
Interment at Kingwood Memorial Park.
